2020/03/21 Update from The Sunflower Initiative

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of The Sunflower Initiative (TSI), I am reaching out to you with an update on TSI’s status in light of COVID-19. We are listening closely to federal and state recommendations about how best to stay safe and participate responsibly in efforts to combat the coronavirus. We are deeply concerned about the impact of the virus on our friends and trust that all of us, including our higher education partners, are taking preventative measures to protect the well-being of families, communities, and Harriet Fitzgerald Scholars.

While we recognize that TSI’s investments, which are relatively conservative, will be impacted by the roiling nature of the stock market, we continue our steadfast commitment to  providing scholarships to young women attending women’s colleges. The Board will ensure the continuity of our mission for our next generation of women and hope your dedication to our scholars remains strong as well.

To that end, our Scholarship Committee is currently reviewing applications for the 2020-21 academic year, and we will be as excited as ever to introduce the Harriet Fitzgerald Scholar to you later this spring. Our commitment to all of our scholars remains strong.

Please stay safe and please stay with us. The efforts of all of us mean so much to our scholars.

If you have concerns or questions, please feel free to email me at emccrodden@gmail.com or call me at 919-812-7098.

Warm regards,

Betsy McCrodden
President, Board of Directors
