About The Sunflower Initiative

The Sunflower Initiative is a non-profit organization focused on providing financial assistance to women attending single-sex educational institutions.  Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Bedford, Virginia, The Sunflower Initiative was formed by a group of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College alumnae who are passionate about the value of a single sex education in empowering and supporting the leadership potential of women. 

The Sunflower Name: Representing a Vibrant Future

The Sunflower has long been a symbol associated with Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and was chosen as the name for this initiative to both honor the legacy of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and as an appropriate symbol for the future to represent the vibrant future of women with access to education and opportunity, especially in a single-sex environment that nurtures and encourages their unique gifts.
