Empowering Women Through Education

The Sunflower Initiative is a non-profit organization founded by alumnae of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College to provide scholarships to young women who wish to attend women’s colleges. The Sunflower Initiative believes that women’s colleges continue to provide invaluable opportunities for women who are serious about academics and who seek to be leaders on campus and, later, in their professions and communities.

Honoring a Legacy of Excellence in Education
The Sunflower Initiative, Inc. honors the legacy of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, an institution that fostered an atmosphere of critical inquiry, creative exploration, and scholastic excellence.  Young women from diverse backgrounds and nationalities came to Randolph-Macon Woman's College to gather the tools for "the life more abundant" and moved into the larger world empowered by intellectual curiosity, tolerance, and energetic determination to make a difference.  Over the course of its rich history, Randolph-Macon Woman’s College produced renowned educators, doctors, lawyers, artists, priests and ministers, community activists, politicians, writers, and businesswomen.
